Mercedes’ New Hammer: 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63
The horsepower and technology wars continue to rage in the luxury car market. The latest example comes from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG skunkworks in Affalterbach.
The engineers at AMG have long been famous for shoehorning high-horsepower engines into the normally staid MB sedans. Over the years the cars have become less straight line drag-racing hammer and more well-rounded high-performance transportation. Serious driver's cars!
I spoke of the release of the new E-Class here. In a not-so-shocking move, AMG has seen to it
that the E-Class has an evil twin…!
Armed with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pounding out 571
horsepower (612 hp in E63 S trim), the new AMG E is truly a rocket ship. Add in a 9-speed MCT sports transmission, 4MATIC
all-wheel drive, a well-sorted sports suspension and all manner of electronic
aids, and you have one luxurious sedan with precipitous levels of handling and
performance.
Lest we not forget, the famous Mercedes-Benz luxury and
solidity are still accounted for, and now topped off with an extensive list of
customization options from the AMG Performance Studio. You can get to where you are going in a
hurry, and look good while doing so.
It all adds up to one fine and extreme car. We will soon see how well it holds its
ground, as the next generation BMW M5 is due to break cover soon. Stay tuned for a knock-down, drag-out battle
of the luxe super-sedans..!
The Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S are due in showrooms March of
next year, with sales beginning January 16th.
