Lotus Eletre – The Electric Hyper SUV

Lotus Cars Limited, the famed British automotive manufacturer founded by Colin Chapman in 1948, has always done things a little differently. The latest step outside the box is being referred to as the world’s first electric Hyper-SUV.

Introducing the Lotus Eletre.

Boldly styled for a striking presence, the Eletre adheres to the long-held Lotus engineering doctrine of less weight being the key to performance. Carbon fiber and aluminum are extensively utilized in the construction of this SUV. Add in 600+ horsepower, and you have one quick hauler. The company boasts an arrival at 60mph in under 3.0 seconds.

As for the electric bits, with a battery capacity of over 100kWh, Lotus claims a 373-mile range on a full charge, along with fast-charging technology to replenish your juice in a matter of minutes. Active aerodynamics aid in those range numbers, along with the above-mentioned featherweight approach. Two electric motors are present, one driving each set of wheels.

The interior design has been well-conceived, and the Eletre cockpit looks like a fine place to blur the passing landscape. Seating can be had with four individual seats or the more traditional layout for five. Materials are of an elevated quality and focus on sustainability.

I admit to being rather impressed by this effort from the folks at Lotus. Sporting a modern design esthetic and future-forward engineering, the Eletre is a winner in my book. Look for availability in 2023. Pricing has not been announced.

Cheers!
