New BMW X3 Arrives!

The second generation of what will soon be the middle of BMW’s SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) lineup, the X3, has made its official debut.

Slightly larger than the previous edition the X3 (factory code F25) will be available in two configurations... The entry-level X3 xDrive28i has a normally aspirated 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder engine providing 240 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. If you need more grunt, look to the X3 xDrive35i with its turbocharged and direct injected 3.0 liter six good for 300 horses and 300 lb-ft of torque. The bigger engine will get the X3 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, while the smaller engine will be about a second behind.

Other tech bits include the third generation of BMW’s fine xDrive all-wheel drive system as well as the latest version of iDrive navigation. The expected luxury touches are present as well, depending on how you choose to outfit your buggy.

Overall the exterior and interior design show better than the previous edition. The most noticeable improvement however, will be the overall ride and performance. The previous X3 was universally ridiculed for a ride that was “too harsh”. BMW engineers took this to heart and spent a great deal of effort getting a more compliant feel while still retaining that famous BMW handling.

To be built at an expansion of the BMW Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, the X3 will be in dealerships Q4 of this year.
