Ooh La LaFerrari
I think my first reaction was “why the heck did the call it
that?”
LaFerrari… Really?President of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, frankly says that this car “is the maximum expression of what defines our company – excellence. Excellence in terms of technological innovation, performance, styling and the sheer thrill of driving.”
OK then…
Fortunately, for Ferraristi everywhere, Luca is not exaggerating. The specs on the ”La” are off the
charts. Let me begin with the
powerplant, Ferrari’s version of a hybrid.
(Prius owners may want to look away.)
Start with a 6,262cc V12 engine that revs to 9,250 rpm and add an
electric drive unit contributing 161 bhp and you end up with 950 horsepower and
664 lb ft of torque. Geez! All that juice gets the red lightning to 62
mph in less than 3 seconds, and to 124 mph in less than 7..! Keep your foot down and you will eventually
see 217 on the speedometer.
More tech tidbits: A
second electric motor is present and controls other ancillary functions. You also have active aerodynamics including
active diffusers at the front and rear of the car, and also an active rear
spoiler.
As for looks, the LaFerrari is not in the same stunner category
as their front-engine coupes. Every line,
crease and curve on this body is in place for the strictest of performance requirements. Let’s call it a purposeful beauty…
You had better get in line now if you want one, as only 499
examples of the LaFerrari will be built.
The price has not been released, but if you have to ask…
