Mercedes-Benz Does a Pickup Truck? “What the…

…hell is going on out there?”

Pardon my Lombardi reference, but the quote seems rather apropos in regard to the folks at Mercedes-Benz losing their collective minds.

The reality?  This is all about the bottom line, and securing another slice of the proverbial automotive pie.  After all, there is big money in the pickup truck world…
Big…     money…

Stockholm, Sweden was the locale chosen for the reveal.  Why Europe?  The MB folks are targeting the pickup, likely a 2018 model due in late 2017, for Europe, along with South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.  Apparently, the mind-think is that Americans are too loyal to their current truck brands.  The Benz company line is that the pickup may not come to the U.S.A.
It will…   trust me…

What do we know about this odd-ling of the MB lineup?  Currently referred to as the X-Class, the range-topper will be powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine, have all-wheel drive, and tow over 3 tons.  There appear to be two design variants.  One looks to be style and on-road oriented, while the other is directed toward off-road capability, also reflected in the visuals.
Interested?  Mercedes-Benz has been in the truck business for several years, and very successfully so.  I have a strange feeling the X-Class will do quite well.  Let’s see if (when) they bring it here…
